The Paintings of Nils Wieland

Wieland's inspiration as a painter resulted from
his Amsterdam background. One day he decided
to turn the more or less traditional drawings he made
of the Amstel river area into paintings.
From the very beginning he intuitively reflected a vision
that has surreal tendencies to it. No human being, animal
or direct human activity is to be found in these paintings.
Even though they refer to earthly life, these works
seem to somehow exist outside of it.
Colour, placement & subject matter create an image,
a projection of an inner world where serenity,
silence & desolation rule
