Take a look at this site's Proust gallery with drawings done by Nils Wieland

Wieland took historical photographs of Proust's real life (female) circle of friends & acquaintances and turned them into drawings that represent the 'empty' personae of the 'Recherche', into which Proust projected his composite literary fictional characters.

This resulted in classically styled drawings lacking facial features

Wieland thus created in material form what he calls:
                       'Proustian projection character space'
